As children of GOD we do not live by the law, we live by faith and love. Now this has confused me because we are also told not to sin as children of GOD. Now this is true. I know a book I read explained this really well so bear with me to try and explain it just as well with the help of our Father in heaven. Here are some quotes from the word of GOD and helps explain this really well.
John 14:15 English Standard Version (ESV)
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
Luke 10: 25-28 English Standard Version (ESV)
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”
Now look at that first quote closely. The words you see there are If you love me. If you are focusing on loving GOD or Jesus you will automatically keep his commands because you will want to. Not that you will not stumble every now and then as I know I have. Just ask for forgiveness and get back up and keep going. You can always pray for help and he will help you, some sins may need a lot more time to work out so be patient and keep focused on GOD and your future with him. You can also focus on what he has done for you. Like wiping away your sins through the cross. It can also help by past prayers he has answered. I know this helps me.
Don’t worry about not sinning as I have done that and it does not work. Just keep focused on Jesus. Read the bible or listen to the bible and obey what it says. Also keep all the promises of GOD in mind as well as this helps me. I may make another post that lists some helpful promises.
Also loving others fulfills the law as well. One easy way to look at that is if you love your neighbor as your self are you going to steal from them? the answer should be no. The rest of the commands are fulfilled by this as well, even lying. Who likes to be lied to even if the truth hurts it still needs to be the truth. Also would you covet if you think of your treasure in heaven?
Update: Much more has been learned from the first writing of this and now. Fearing GOD is also helpful in obeying him. Now this fear it not fear of torment but fear of hurting someone you love. Look at it this way. If you admire or look up too some one or even some one you think of very highly. Would you want to disobey them or obey them. Now if you disobeyed wouldn’t you be scared? I think this is how it should be with GOD.
